CRISIS DATA
- Affected people. Three million people have been affected by the crisis, or 37% of the population.
- Violence. Civilians, the poorest in the country, were trapped in the middle of violence among gangs, the police and the UN peacekeepers. High levels of violence complicated significantly the population’s access to education, health services and even humanitarian assistance.
- UN peacekeepers. 7,200 soldiers attempted to break the cycle of violence. There is no peace agreement and the violence seems to persistent.

DATA ON THE HUMANITARIAN RESPONSE
- United Nations. In 2004, the UN Appeal received 46% or the requested funds, or US$16 million of the US$36 million requested.
- Donors. Haiti received a total of US$25 million of humanitarian aid. The main donors were the European Commission (US$10 million), the United States (US$6.4 million), the United Kingdom (US$3.9 million) and France (US$2.5 million).
- 2007 UN Appeal. The 2007 UN Transitional Appeal was for US$98 million.
