The 2008 Humanitarian Response Index Is Underway

Although the launching of 2007 Humanitarian Response Index (HRI) is still in recent memory, DARA is beginning to work on the 2008 HRI. The first humanitarian emergencies assessed for the next edition were the earthquake that devastated multiple regions of Peru last August, and Hurricane Felix that hit Central America, specifically Nicaragua.

Kofi Annan Launches 2007 Humanitarian Response Index

Nordic countries, followed closely by the European Comisión, are the leading humanitarian donors in DARA’s 2007 Humanitarian Response Index (HRI), launched today in London by former UN Secretary-General Kofi A. Annan, together with Silvia Hidalgo, Director of DARA and Augusto López-Claros, Project Director.

At the Clinton Global Initiative DARA Commits To Creating the Humanitarian Response Index For the Next Three Years

In the annual meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative, DARA announced its commitment to create the Humanitarian Response Index (HRI) for the next three years. With this new tool, DARA will contribute to improving the quality of life of those affected by emergencies by analysing the donors’ actions.

The Role of the Beneficiaries of Humanitarian Action

This article defends the practice of analyzing the needs and capacities of communities affected by crises as an important component of more effective humanitarian actions. As stated in the Principles of Good Humanitarian Donorship, implementing organisations should ensure the adequate involvement of the aid beneficiary groups in the design, implementation, and evaluation of humanitarian responses.

DARA Presented the HRI in the 5th Conference of the Spanish Evaluation Society

The Humanitarian Response Index was presented at the 5th Conference of the Spanish Evaluation Society as an instrument to measure donors’ actions. DARA presented its project in the framework of a session on international cooperation.

DARA Meets with the GHD Donors

In order to provide information and exchange points of view on the Humanitarian Response Index, DARA met with members of the Good Humanitarian Donorship Initiative in Geneva. The meeting is part of the open dialogue DARA has maintained with humanitarian actors to create the Index.
